Pecco Bagnaia on the podium at Jerez with two third places. Iván Ortolá steady in Moto2.
The Spanish Grand Prix, held at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto, delivered intense emotions and unexpected twists. Our Suomy rider Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia secured a solid third place in the main MotoGP race, showing determination and skill in a race marked by incidents and spectacular overtakes. In Moto2, Iván Ortolá continues to struggle to fully display his potential. He used practice sessions and the race to find the right feeling and gain experience, but ultimately finished this fifth round of the World Championship in 18th position.
SPRINT RACE
In Saturday’s Sprint Race, Pecco Bagnaia achieved an excellent third place. Starting from third on the grid, he maintained a competitive pace, managing to step onto the podium behind the Márquez brothers. “A classic Sprint for me, as often happens: I struggle, and I finish where I start. When I get close to the riders ahead, I start having problems with the front tyre… What doesn’t work for me on Saturday usually works out in the long race,” said our Pecco.
RACE
Sunday’s main race saw Pecco Bagnaia deliver a solid performance. Starting from third place, he kept a steady pace. During the opening laps, he managed to climb to second position but dropped back to third by lap four. Francesco showed great consistency and good feeling throughout the race, ultimately finishing third behind the Gresini Team Ducati and the Yamaha.
At the end of the fifth Grand Prix of the season, Bagnaia is third overall in the standings, 20 points behind the leader.
Today, our Suomy Rider Pecco Bagnaia is engaged in an official test day, still at Jerez de la Frontera, to best prepare for the sixth round of the 2025 season at Le Mans.
MOTO2
In Moto2, Iván Ortolá faced a challenging race. Starting from 18th on the grid, he showed a race pace close to the leaders but unfortunately finished in the same position he started from.
After five races, Iván sits 15th in the overall Moto2 standings with ten points.
“I did my most classic Sprint Race of the season: I started third and crossed the line third, without overtakes. We’ll work on this matter during the Monday test. We’re still happy with how today went, we didn’t lose many points and tomorrow is a different day, we’ll try to give it some more. The goal is to bridge the gap, as at the moment Marc is showing to be the quicker one.”
Francesco Bagnaia (#63 Ducati Lenovo Team) – Sprint Race 3th
“After the battle with Marc on lap one, I pushed hard to try and catch Fabio (Quartararo), but unfortunately I didn’t have enough to overtake him. From then on, I wasn’t able to be as effective as Alex (Márquez) at turns 11 and 12; I couldn’t make the most of them to get closer. In any case, this is a third place that, with Marc’s crash, allowed me to narrow the gap down to the championship lead. Today I couldn’t fully exploit the bike’s potential, and therefore I’m not fully happy.”
