The seventh round of the season at Le Mans did not end well for Pecco Bagnaia, who was unable to complete the race and had a bad crash with not many laps to go.
Fresh from an amazing victory in Spain and a historic pole position obtained in the French qualifying session on Saturday, for our Suomy rider the race at Le Mans ought to be a decisive one to score points and try to climb the championship standings.
After being passed by his teammate Miller at the start, on the fourth lap Pecco manages to get back in command of the race until the twentieth lap, when he is forced to give up the first place to a Bastianini who was a little faster than him. Not long after, Pecco makes a mistake that he himself defines as immature and falls.
Pecco doesn’t hide his disappointment and his anger for the mistake made and explains that he can no longer afford certain mistakes if he doesn’t want to compromise the world championship. However, he claims he is getting more and more competitive and determined to do well at the Mugello circuit, where Pecco Bagnaia will proudly try to bring Suomy SR-GP to the podium of his home race.
“Today, everything was perfect, until the crash! After going wide at Turn 8 and losing ground to Bastianini, I didn’t think about going to catch him right away because I knew I was fast, but at Turn 13, I made a mistake and crashed. Today we lose 20 important points for the standings, and it becomes more difficult to recover, although the Championship is still long: we can’t afford to make any more mistakes in the next races.”
