Francesco Bagnaia wins the Sprint Race with his S1 XR GP with a new design! On Sunday, however, he was forced to retire.
A weekend full of twists and turns, highs and lows. Our rider Pecco Bagnaia proved once again to be one of the fastest, winning the Sprint Race but also being unlucky in Sunday’s race when a front wheel locking issue slowed him down and then caused him to fall.
SPRINT RACE
Our Suomy Rider, Francesco Bagnaia, showed that he was in great physical and mental form. Despite an imperfect start, he managed to climb to second place and take advantage of a mistake by Martin to take the lead, maintaining impressive lap times throughout the race. Pecco wore his S1-XR GP with another unique design on a white base featuring many “tortellini”, reminding him of both his family with Sunday lunches and the Tortellante association, a group for families of children with autism.
RACE
Sunday’s race was unlucky for our rider.
Pecco encountered significant front wheel problems right from the start, which eventually caused him to slide just a few laps from the end, while he was in third place behind Martin and his teammate Bastianini. Unfortunately, this zero score moves him 24 points behind the championship leader.
A real pity because despite the front wheel locking issues and rear grip problems, Pecco recorded the fastest lap twice.
The team has stated that they will try to understand what happened and resolve the issue ahead of the long non-European tour.
“I did everything to make sure my riding was as close to 100% as possible and luckily I managed to do so. Today’s race pace was crazy. Just two weeks ago, to be lapping in the 31.2/3 was already an incredible achievement, while today we were consistently quicker than that. Once again, I didn’t get the best of starts and I found myself also behind Brad (Binder). Once I moved up to second, I found myself with a 0.7secs gap, and it was hard to get the better of Jorge (Martín); without his mistake, it would have been a lot harder to overtake him. I was very quick in that sector, and I would have tried to pass him there anyway. I’m happy because we narrowed the gap down to the lead a bit more, but the most important race awaits us tomorrow and it’ll be key to get a good start and be in the lead from the get-go. I’d like to thank the team for the amazing work done and the fans for being here with us.”

“Today simply went the way it did. I was already having some issues with the front locking since the start of the race so even when the rear tyre started to perform with 15 laps in and set the fastest lap of the race two times in a row, I still tried to be as careful as possible, especially under braking. Then, I lost the front as hit the brakes, despite being still in an upright position. It was a strange day no doubt, but we’ll be ready next time.”
